A chance for kids to explore radio, TV and creativity
The studio is part of an entertainment initiative that radio and television host and producer Ryan Seacrest and his family developed to help patients explore the creative realms of radio, television and new media. The RSF aims to contribute positively to the healing process for children and their families during their stay, as well as to bring an uplifting spirit to the hospital community.
“The Ryan Seacrest Foundation is honored to be welcomed into Children’s Hospital Colorado and expand our network of Seacrest Studios. We are truly inspired by the tenacity and courage of the patients, and their families, and our hope is that they will benefit from the studio’s interactive nature and find a creative outlet and healing opportunity during their stay,” said Seacrest.
BBOY 45: A new TV and radio station, just for patients
Along with the new Seacrest Studios, Children’s Colorado will launch a new closed-circuit television channel called BBOY 45 (BBOY stands for Balloon Boy, the hospital logo.) The closed-circuit television and radio station will broadcast entertainment programming throughout the hospital and offer patients who are unable to leave their rooms the opportunity to virtually interact with studio guests and what is happening in the studio. Access to BBOY 45 will be available in patient rooms at Children’s Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Children’s Colorado North Campus and Children’s Colorado South Campus.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to further enhance our patients' experience at Children's Colorado with generous donations from the Ryan Seacrest Foundation and support from Children's Colorado's Foundation," said Jim Shmerling, CEO of Children's Colorado. "The studio will be an extension of our Child Life Therapy program by providing a new creative outlet for patients and their families."
Kid-friendly programming, from bingo to karaoke
The studio is located on the east side of the Boettcher Atrium in Children’s Colorado. Programming produced in the studio will focus on fun, interactive and educational programs geared towards kids of all ages. Some of the programs may include game shows, bingo, top 40 music hour, Prescription Pets, celebrity talent and karaoke.
With the help of its founding sponsors E! Entertainment and The Coca-Cola Co., RSF has opened six other Seacrest Studios across the country: Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, Children’s Medical Center in Dallas and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
